Account Creation & Referrals

Before you can post, vote, or build your presence on Blurt, you need an account. Because Blurt is decentralized, account creation can happen through different services and tools rather than through one single universal signup page.

How account creation works on Blurt

Blurt accounts are blockchain accounts, not just website profiles. That means account creation is a real on-chain action and may involve fees, creator accounts, or third-party signup services depending on the method you use.

Common Account Creation Options
Signup Providers

Some services provide a public signup flow and may list available registration providers. This is often the easiest route for beginners who do not already have a Blurt account.

Account Creation by Existing Users

Experienced users can sometimes create accounts for others using their own creator account and the required account authority. This is useful for onboarding friends, communities, or invited users.

What beginners should know before signing up

  • Your username is a blockchain identity and usually cannot be changed later.
  • Your password and keys must be saved safely before you start using the account.
  • Account creation may involve fees or resource costs depending on the service or current blockchain settings.
  • Different services may offer different signup flows, but the final result is still a blockchain account.

New: PDF Backup with QR Codes (BLURT Account Creator)

The BLURT Account Creator provides a structured one-page PDF backup that includes your Master Password/Seed and all keys (Owner, Active, Posting, Memo) with matching QR codes. This improves reliability and reduces copy/paste errors when transferring keys to other devices.

Why this is helpful

The PDF is designed to be clear and print-friendly, with each key on one line and a QR code next to it.

QR codes make it easier to import keys into mobile apps and help avoid typing mistakes.

Critical security warning

A QR code is your key. If someone gets the PDF (or a photo of it), they can steal your account. Store this PDF offline only.

Safe beginner workflow

1) Create the account → 2) Download the PDF backup → 3) Print it or store it offline → 4) Verify you can still access your keys later.

Do not upload the PDF to cloud storage, email it to yourself, or save it in a photo gallery that syncs to the cloud.

New: Backup Decryption & Old Backup Conversion

The backup system has been extended to help users who already have older backup formats. You can decrypt encrypted backups and convert older TXT backups into the newer PDF layout with QR codes.

What it can do

Decrypt encrypted backups, restore older formats, and convert older TXT backups into a modern one-page PDF with QR codes.

Security warning

Decrypted output and QR codes are keys. Do not use this on shared computers and do not share screenshots or the generated PDF.

New: QR Code Scanning for Login (MyBlurtPlugin Online)

A login convenience feature was added to MyBlurtPlugin Online: you can scan a QR code to fill the login key field instead of copying and pasting keys manually. This reduces typing mistakes and makes login smoother on mobile devices.

Why this helps beginners

Less copy/paste stress, fewer mistakes, and a faster login workflow—especially when moving keys between desktop and phone.

Security reminder

A QR code can contain a private key. Never share QR screenshots, and avoid cloud photo sync for anything that contains keys.

Referral Systems

Some Blurt frontends and projects may support referral systems. These systems help existing users invite newcomers and sometimes track who introduced a user to the platform.

Referral features can change over time and may depend on the frontend you use. If a referral option is available, always make sure you understand whether it is a normal invite link, a creator-account workflow, or part of a frontend-specific onboarding system.

Important Safety Reminder
  • Always save your password or keys before finishing account creation.
  • Double-check the website domain before entering any sensitive information.
  • Do not trust random “free signup” links from unknown users without verifying them first.
  • If someone helps you create an account, make sure you understand which keys belong to you and where they are stored.
  • If you lose your keys, you lose access to your account.
  • Without your Owner Key, you cannot change your keys or recover control of the account yourself.
  • QR codes and backup PDFs can contain keys. Treat them like cash: keep them offline and private.
